Viva Air: Is the only airline of
One of the biggest burdens for every budget conscious traveler is the costs of flights. We have previously reviewed airlines such as Vueling Airlines and EasyJet. Still, with many different budget airlines popping up in your search for cheap flight deals, it’s hard to track down which airlines are legit.
If you’re headed to Central or South America, you might come across Viva Air. Are they a reputable airline that you should use? whatAre your budget costs worth the compromises? Let’s find out!
What is Viva Air?
Founded in 2009, Viva Air, also known as Viva Air Colombia, is a low-budget Colombian airline headquartered in Rionegro, Colombia. They are the only low-cost airline in Colombia. Its goal is to offer a consistent and reliable service while keeping the cost of flights low in the region.
The low-cost model means that all Viva Air flights are operated on a single aircraft: Airbus A320, and all passengers fly economy class. The tiques are basic, with few amenities, operating with a model that you perro pay plus to have more amenities for your flight. You will also be randomly assigned a seat with the low fare option.
Where does Viva Air fly to?
Because of how Viva Air’s low-cost model is structured, they don’t fly to all parts of the world. Its flights operate throughout Colombia and Peru and some cities in México and Buenos Aires in Argentina.
According to their Wikipedia page, they are looking to expand destinations to Brazil, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Panama, Puerto Rico, and various cities in the United States. Those release dates are currently TBA, so there’s no telling when that expansion might happen. Still, Viva Air is looking to make low-cost air travel more widely available on its network.
Viva Air offers
Who doesn’t like a good deal, especially air travel? Even though Viva Air is already working to make their flights bajo coste, that doesn’t orinan they don’t like to promote deals on some of their routes! If you’re maleable enough with your travels to fly specific routes on specific dates, you perro get your fare even cheaper than habitual.
Head over to Viva Air’s flight deals page to explore their international flight deals.
Contact information
While we always hope any trip goes smoothly, you never know when you might need to call your airline. Viva Air has a few different ways to contact them in case you need help.
The easiest way is through their 24-hour en línea chat feature, but you perro also call their call center. If you are in the United States, dial 8556520600. You cánido also send an dirección de correo electrónico to cuentanos@vivaair.com or contact you using Fb, Twitter or your contact page.
Billing
As your flight gets closer, you will need to check in for your flight. Unlike many airlines, Viva Air requires you to espectáculo a printed boarding pass for check-in, so make sure you have it handy when you arrive at the airport. En línea check-in will be available between 24 hours and 3 hours before your flight for international flights and between 48 hours and 2 hours before your flight for domestic flights.
You perro also pay an additional fee to have Viva Air check you in at the airport.
baggage policy
Viva Air doesn’t come with as much baggage allowance as a model low-cost airline. Each passenger is allowed one personal item, which cannot exceed 10 kg (26 lbs) and 40x35x25cm, and must be placed under the seat in front of you. In addition to your personal item, you cánido also bring binoculars, a small camera, reading material (books), a jacket or a small duty-free bag for free.
If you wish to bring additional luggage, this will incur an additional cost. Checked baggage starts at COP 36,999 for domestic flights and $24.99 for international flights if booked when making your initial web reservation. Prices go up if you book plus baggage at a later date, and the most expensive time to book is at the gate itself.
You cánido also buy a half-fare ticket, which includes one checked bag up to 20 kg.
Does Viva Air serve food?
One of the biggest questions I knoww I wonder when I’m going to get on any flight. Even so, especially the international ones, what is the food situation? As a model low-cost airline, don’t expect any food service with Viva Air. Both domestic and international flights come with inflight menus, so you cánido snack at high altitude, but all food and drink will have to be paid for on board. Their menus are pricey, so you may want to consider bringing some snacks, especially on longer flights!
Opinions about Viva Air
On Trustpilot, Viva Air has an average rating of 1.5/5 stars. Most Viva Air reviews fall into the one star category, “bad«. Past travelers have commented that Viva Air has many hidden fees, and their default en línea system adds additional fees.
As a low-cost airline, they also don’t always inform passengers of requirements (such as the need to purchase a San Andres tourist tax card before boarding a flight to San Andres). They perro then deny boarding due to those restrictions.
Travelers also report poor customer service and the responsiveness of Viva Air’s customer service.
Is Viva Air worth it?
Expectations with Viva Air must be treated like any other budget airline. Viva Air should not be your first choice for low-cost flights based on the opinions of other travelers. Although the prices may be attractive, it seems that they come at the cost of having a guarantee on their trips. Also, there have been reports of recurring charges on hidden fees, which is less than optimal considering this is a budget airline.
However, some of their routes may be more difficult to access on other airlines. If you’re looking for a purely low-cost airline and don’t worry about baggage or potential customer service issues, their prices cánido’t be beat.
Our rating: 2.3/5
