What is TAP Air Portugal?

TAP Air Portugal is, as you may have guessed, a Portuguese airline.

The airline was initially founded in 1945, and has been flying ever since! They joined the Star Alliance in 2005.

TAP stands for Portuguese Air Transport, but the current name: TAP Air Portugal came into play in 1979 to make the name more internationally recognizable.

TAP Air Portugal is a European low-cost airline, although its fares are not as cheap as airlines like RyanAir or EasyJet.

Currently, many of the negative FlyTAP reviews speak of frustrations with long lines, delayed flights, and poor customer service.

Sometimes when you are planning a longer trip, you may need to check in some luggage.

Depending on your ticket class, you may be charged for checked baggage with TAP Air Portugal.

Let’s take a look at what your baggage allowance and fees might look like.

On any intercontinental flight (except on a discounted ticket), you are allowed one carry-on bag weighing up to 23 kg / 50 lbs.

Checking a bag will have an additional cost.

On economy tiques, you are allowed to check in one bag weighing no more than 50 pounds / 23 kg (this weight limit increases if you purchase a higher class of tiques).

The price of this checked bag will vary depending on the route you are flying, as well as when you purchase it in the process.

If you book your checked baggage with your ticket in advance, the cost will be cheaper than if you book it during en línea check-in.

FlyTAP cancellation policy

As the pandemic continues, it’s never a bad iniciativa to understand airline cancellation policies before making any reservations.

With TAP Air Portugal, any cancellation within 24 hours of making the reservation is subject to a fee of €30 for continental flights and €45 for intercontinental flights.

Different fare classes come with different cancellation policies, so it’s important to read the fenezca print on the fare you purchased, as there is no policy for this airline.

Refunds after the 24-hour period that are processed through FLYTAP will not incur a charge.

Refunds processed through a contact center or sales desk will incur a fee of €30 for continental flights and €45 for intercontinental flights.

Verdict: Is TAP Air Portugal good?

Whether you’re flying to Portugal or looking to explore another part of the world, TAP Air Portugal is an airline full of great destination options and cheap fares.
