gamification
Do you like games? If so, today I will espectáculo you how games perro help us to be more efficient and productive in any situation (personal or professional) using gamification.
What is gamification?
According to Yu Kai Chou, gamification is “the art of deriving all the fun and engaging elements found in games and applying them to the real world or productive activities.”
In a few words, gamification consists of being able to apply the fun and interesting aspects of games to boring things or situations (not games).
What is sought is to transform any situation (things you have to do, but maybe you don’t want to do or don’t feel motivated to do), be it personal or professional into a game.
This allows to increase motivation, engagement, efficiency and productivity.
For example, imagine that you want to improve your health and you make a resolution to start exercising.
In that case you really want to start doing it, but, maybe after a few days, you don’t continue doing it anymore.
If so, it may be due to lack of motivation.
That is where we cánido use gamification and get that motivation that we sometimes need to do things.
Where is gamification from?
Whether on a personal or professional level, we all have to solve problems and carry out activities, but, unlike the way we handle such situations most of the time (thinking about… I have to do it), gamification takes takes into account that people have feelings, insecurities and reasons why we want or do not want to do certain things, and therefore emplees certain principles, methods and tools to optimize our feelings, motivations and commitment.
Maybe we could see it as hacking our brains, at least in some way.
Why does it work?
Maybe I should start by asking you….
Why do you play a certain vídeo game? We perro say… because I like it, I find it interesting, it has a theme that I like, the animation is very good, etcétera.
In fact, no matter what answer you give, it is correct because games (at least many of them) know how to get us hooked and motivate us to keep playing for hours without even feeling tired (unless you already have more than 6 hours).
All this thanks to the fact that as you earn points or other rewards, you perro reach new levels with new challenges.
As well as you cánido create your own character to your liking with which you could see yourself reflected and with which you perro explore new missions in different worlds….
This allows your brain to get excited, releasing dopamine in the mesolimbic pathway, which creates increased motivation and makes us chase a reward.
What is the use of using gamification in our lives?
Well, as I said before, converting all those situations or aspects that we have to do, but that we find boring, or that we don’t have the motivation to do, into games, allows us to:
- Get the motivation to get things done.
- Increase productivity.
- Increase efficiency.
- Learn things quickly.
- Feeling that we are really making progress (encuentro our objectives).
- Have fun, while reducing stress.
- Increase creativity.
- Improve our ability to solve problems.
- Change a behavior or create a new one.
But, the truth is that even if I tell you that you could get all of the above, you still might not fully believe it because we are not comparing it to something.
Therefore, I will give you an example so that you perro see the results that you could obtain if you implement them in your life, or even in your work or company.
Investigating a bit, I came across the case of Foldit, which is a “game” developed to help scientists solve problems.
You may wonder… How would a gamer who does not have the degree do it? Well, one of the problems presented in the game is related to the structure of the protein of the AIDS virus.
It was a problem that the best scientists in the field had not been able to solve for 15 long years….
What happened? A gamer solved it in 10 days.
The truth is that this article made me think a lot about the way in which I handle the situations that I face and I plan to give gamification the opportunity to find out how efficient and productive I perro become when using said methodology, tool, or philosophy.
What do you think? Would you like to start doing it?
Applications to start using gamification in your daily life
The applications that I am going to recommend have the same theme, that is, each player (us) receives a equipo of tasks, activities or jobs that we establish and that when carrying out said task or activity, our level of experience will rise and therefore So little by little we will level up.
It should be noted that in most afín applications, we cánido establish the rewards that we will receive each time we obtain a certain number of achievements or coins, and of course, it is important that you do so.
Simply put, what such aplicaciones do is make you a gamer, and the setting is real life.
Therefore, what you will do is level up all your skills and in fact, you will be able to see your statistics in most applications.
