Eurowings Review: Should You Fly With

Hear “cheap flights» makes my heart flutter.

But I’ve used enough budget airlines to know that they’re either a great way to save money or an easy way to have a horrible travel experience!

Eurowings is a bajo coste airline, afín to Sunwing Airlines, Vueling Airlines and Spirit Airlines.

Low-cost airlines cánido be a great option for avid travelers who want the most value for money, but they are generally hit or miss.

So to help you escoge, I have listed the pros and cons of taking Eurowings flights.

Find out more about Eurowings and find out if it’s worth considering when planning your next European adventure!

What is Eurowings?

As mentioned above, Eurowings is a low-cost airline that is part of the Lufthansa Group.

They fly to more than 100 destinations in more than 50 countries.

The airline was founded in 1996 and rebranded in 2015 to focus on low-cost short-haul and long-haul flights.

Although Eurowings is a low-cost airline, you only pay the lowest prices if you book the basic fares with no plus.

Plus include the option to cancel, seats and bags.

If you want any of these, it may cost you much more than originally planned.

Where does Eurowings fly to?

Most Eurowings flights are within Europe, specifically Germany.

They also fly to select tourist destinations in the rest of the world such as the Caribbean and Turkey.

Here is the current list of Eurowings destination countries:

How and where to book a Eurowings flight

The easiest way to book a flight with Eurowings is on their website!

Once you’re on their website, you just need to entrar where you’re flying to and from, when you want to fly, and how many tiques you need.

Then all available flights and fares will appear and you perro book your flight!

You perro also search for Eurowings flights using a search engine like Google plus Flights.

These are good options if you want to compare Eurowings flight times and prices with other airlines.

If you choose a Eurowings flight from one of these websites, you will be taken directly to the Eurowings website to complete your booking.

Eurowings check-in process

Checking in for a Eurowings flight is easy, and there are several ways to do it for free, even with the BASIC fare.

You cánido check in from your computer on the Eurowings site and all you need is your reservation number!

You cánido also use your phone and check in vía your browser or the Eurowings aplicación, which you cánido download from the Aplicación Store or Google plus Play.

With the Eurowings aplicación, you perro easily access your boarding pass, or you perro send it by text message or correo electrónico.

What you prefer!

The last option is to use a self-service check-in machine at any of the following airports:

  • Cologne/Bonn
  • Dresden
  • dusseldorf
  • hamburg
  • Hanover
  • nuremberg
  • London Heathrow
  • stuttgart
  • vienna

You may be charged if you try to check in at the airport at the counter.

So plan ahead and register before you arrive.

Otherwise, you have to spend your money at the airport check-in instead of a delicious snack at the airport!

Eurowings baggage policy

Eurowings has three different types of bags that they allow you to take on a flight.

  • Small carry-on: 40 x 30 x 25 cm (everyone gets one regardless of which ticket they book)
  • Large hand luggage: 55 x 40 x 23 cm, max. 8kg

Not all tiques allow you to automatically bring all types of luggage, so be sure to check which type of ticket you booked.

The Eurowings BASIC fare allows you to take a small carry-on bag only unless you pay plus for an upgrade.

You perro add a small bag up to 12kg for as little as US$14 or a larger bag up to 23kg for as little as US$20.

SMART fares allow you to bring one of each of three bags with the price already included in your fare.

Or, you cánido book a BIZclass fare and bring two large carry-on bags and two checked bags with you, already included in the ticket price.

So if you paquete too much like me, you want to book a SMART or BIZclass rate to get more bags!

Pro consejo: Always plan to buy luggage beforehand, as it gets more expensive if you want to buy later.

The need to buy luggage at check-in cánido really add unexpected dollars to your trip.

Eurowings seat selection

I’m a window seat girl, and I know you probably have a preference for where you sit on proyectos, too.

SMART and BIZclass fares allow you to choose your seat on your Eurowings flights.

If you have a long flight or want an aisle seat so you cánido get as high up as you like, these types of fares are your best bet.

You cannot choose your seat on a BASIC fare unless you are willing to pay an additional fare.

The fee depends on the flight and the type of seat you want.

Window, aisle, and plus legroom seats cost the most.

Unless you’re comfortable sitting between two people for a few hours, you’ll have to upgrade to a higher fare or pay for your seat.

If not, cross your fingers that you get lucky and don’t end up with a middle seat.

If you are assigned a bad seat at check-in, you cánido pay more to upgrade your seat if one is available.

The plus fee for choosing a seat is one way they get you to spend more money with them or upgrade to a higher rate.

It’s annoying that Eurowings does this, but it’s the way many budget airlines make their money.

How to cancel a Eurowings flight

If you cannot make your flight or escoge not to fly with Eurowings for any other reason, you perro cancel your flight.

The easiest way to cancel a Eurowings flight is by logging into your account en línea or on your mobile aplicación.

You cánido also call the airline directly, and they will help you cancel or change your flight.

However, the amount of money you are refunded from your cancellation depends on the flight you booked.

You perro only get a refund of taxes and airport fees with BASIC flights.

Or, you perro change your flight and just pay the difference in fare, if there is one.

With SMART and BIZClass fares, you perro add the Flex Premium option.

This option allows you to cancel without charge.

While this is another thing you have to pay for, it’s well worth it if your plans aren’t equipo, and you may want your money back if you don’t fly.

Is Eurowings worth it?

Eurowings offers many cheap flights in Europe, but the prices may not be as low as you expect.

If you want to choose your seat or bring more than a small bag, you have to pay much more than the low advertised fare.

After adding in all the plus costs, you’re better off booking with a more reputable airline.

But, if you’re a light traveler or just want a quick weekend getaway between two European cities, Eurowings is worth it.

You cánido fly without all the bells and whistles on the cheap with the BASIC fare, which allows you to bring a small bag.

So for budget travelers, Eurowings is a habitual option.

Eurowings works if you only want to take a short trip within Europe, short enough to need a small bag.

Otherwise, you’ll spend more than you expect and it won’t be worth flying on a budget airline.
