A big list of things to be happy about

I am writing this guide from Costa Rica, where I am taking care of a house for three months.

Sounds pretty cool, huh?

Well, I just got hit hard.

My “partner” – who was supposed to be coming here shortly – has announced that he’s been sleeping with another woman, and….drum roll please…she’s pregnant.

So my plans to spend the next three months as a romantic couple on a tropical island have gone up in smoke.

And to make matters worse, I am very sick, such a disabling disease that I perro only sit for 10 minutes before I have to lie down again.

Being this sick is very scary when you’re alone, and it’s a stark reminder of that loneliness.

And ironically, I have agreed to write an article about things to be happy about.

Time to reframe my experience.

It would be obvious to point out that I am healing my wounds (physical and emotional) in a Central American country, where I have almost no overhead.

It is something to be happy about.

There are some nice and friendly locals who live and work on the property, which gives me a sense of company and security.

I have found a way to travel the world full time in a financially sustainable way, something I have been doing for the last five years.

To say that “things could be worse» is an understatement.

Do not gloat: reframe your way of thinking

In difficult times, it is difficult to see the forest through the trees.

Everything becomes gloomy and full of despair.

To some extent, I think it’s healthy to explore those darker moments, because they lead to incredible growth experiences.

But staying in depression, wallowing in self-hatred and doubt, is a dangerous path.

And you usually end up driving away people who are trying to help you in the process.

Instead, wallow, but only for a while.

Then, rethink things again.

After a period of self-care and kindness, it’s time to get off what perro be a slippery slope toward bad habits and depression.

Think about how you cánido change your life if you feel stuck.

Cut out some images and dream big with an iniciativa board.

And surround yourself with people who love you and cánido support you.

Don’t reject them, as is often the instinctive response.

Friendships grow deeper when you support each other through life’s tough times.

Here’s a random list of things to be happy about.

Don’t let the possible lack of some of these things in your life discourage you; instead, do what I did when making this list: See the world around you through the eyes of a baby.

You will be amazed at what you vea and how fácil the root of happiness cánido be.
