Scammers are trying harder than ever to take advantage of unwitting victims through text message scams.
According to “The RoboKiller Report: 2022 Mid-Year Phone Scam Insights,” more than 147 billion robotexts are expected to occur this year, 68% more than the nearly 88 billion fraudulent text messages that occurred in 2021.
The rise is due to recent efforts by the Federal Communications Commission to crack down on spoof calls, prompting scammers to look for a new avenue to scam victims: text messages.
According to RoboKiller, scammers are known to follow consumer behavior trends.
That’s why the holidays are the perfect time to catch people unawares, and delivery scams are favored by scammers.
According to the report, California, Florida, Georgia, New York and Texas are the five states that received the highest number of robotexts in the first half of this year.
The report aprecies that scammers objetivo states with densely populated cities to reach as many people as possible.
However, even if you don’t live in one of those states, it’s important to stay vigilant and never clic on a backlink (or otherwise engage) when you’re not sure if a text message you receive is legitimate.
Instead, contact the company, service, or person the message purports to be from directly to verify its legitimacy.

As part of this scam, you will receive a text message stating that you are from Amazon.
It will also say that there is a problem with your Amazon account and ask you to verify your personal information by clicking on the backlink provided.
Of course, the backlink is not from Amazon and any personal information you provide will be given to a scammer.
